Attend Washington DC Court Hearing

The future of our pensions is at stake. As part of our appeal process, on May 20th we filed a complaint against the PBGC and a motion for a preliminary injunction to stop the termination process from moving forward. These motions were filed in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, not the bankruptcy court.

Join MEC President Greg Davidowitch and our Legal team to take action in our fight to save our pensions. Attend the court hearing to put a human face on the potential harm of United's destructive actions.

  • Date: June 3, 2005
  • Time: 1100 Washington DC Time

The United States District Court for the District of Columbia Third Street and Constitution Avenue, Northwest, Washington, D.C.

Directions: The Courthouse is located one block west of the United States Capitol. The building faces Constitution Avenue where Constitution and Pennsylvania Avenues have merged. There is a convenient METRO subway station, Judiciary Square (Red Line), which is located at the east side of 4th Street between D & E Streets.

In order to make an impression on the court, it is important that we are seen. Our presence in the court room will make a greater impact if we are respectful and attentive.

Use the following guidelines to help make an impression on the court:

  • Dress as though you are pass-riding in First Class, but do not wear a suit -- it's important that you do not simply look like another attorney.
  • Double-check to make sure your cell phone is turned off in the court room. The court will not allow any cameras beyond the lobby of the court building.
  • Remember that there may be media reporters, United attorneys, representatives of other creditors and members of United management PR within the court building. An innocent comment on your part could be harmful to our collective objectives. Be very aware of this and keep your conversations to a minimum as there are interested ears all around. Hold your comments about the court proceedings until you have left the court building.
  • When in the court room, once Judge Huvelle enters, pause all conversations and any other distractions.
  • To make clear that you are a front-line employee: wear your Union pin.
